About the project
Project Name: Black Dominicanas Online: a collection of becoming, being, and building.
Grantee: Rosa Angela Calosso
Discipline: Urban Education
Funding Cycle: 2025-2026
Black Dominican Online is a public-facing digital repository that highlights Black Dominican women’s stories of building and educating their diasporic community about sociopolitical issues. This repository is an extension of a research project that examines Black Dominican women’s use of social media as a tool for community building, as an educational space, and for critical reflection and resistance. Through their narratives, we learn that teaching and learning occur beyond traditional educational institutions and that social media has become a critical site for teaching, learning, and community practices, extending beyond physical borders and reaching diaspora communities. The purpose of this repository is to make their stories accessible beyond academia and to enable their integration into networks beyond the online realm.
