About the Project:
“Digital Cartographies of Care” documents Black feminist healthcare spaces across the United States through an innovative digital archive. Employing womanist cartography, the project maps both physical sites and emotional geographies of healing, building upon the legacy of pioneers like Byllye Avery while responding to current reproductive healthcare restrictions and health inequities. The project combines a Squarespace-based interactive platform, virtual symposia documented by graphic recorder Rio Holaday, and original artwork by Amir Khadar to create a comprehensive resource for scholars and communities. Through its free membership area offering implementation guides and visual documentation, the archive serves as both historical documentation and practical tool, advancing new methodologies for understanding how Black feminist approaches address critical health disparities while sustaining transformative healthcare spaces.
