White Paper:

Abstract: Motivated by my experiences as a Black Dominican scholar and social media user with roots in New York City and Santo Domingo, my research focuses on Black Dominican women’s use of social media to shape community, education, and nuanced identity across the diaspora. I examine how Black Dominican women navigate privilege and marginalization in digital and physical spaces, arguing that they generate digital alchemy on social media, fostering transnational relationships. Thus far, I have conducted a pilot study of this project and already began the developing the website for this digital repository. In this next phase, I will interview Black Dominican women in the Dominican Republic with significant social media presence and integrate Black transnational feminist texts into my analysis.
