About the Project:
We propose to create and digitally publish (via Manifold) a teaching manual of the Cuerpos, Identidades y Discriminación workshop to be used by social justice educators in Latin America. Cuerpos, Identidades y Discriminación is a workshop created by GC Ph.D. student Pedro Monque and Jesus Pinzón (but expanded and fine-tuned by other social justice educators) whose goal is to give people tools to understand and combat oppression based on gender, sexuality, race, disability, and other social identities. Our proposed Teaching Manual to Cuerpos, Identidades y Discriminación would be a unique resource for social justice educators in Spanish-speaking contexts. We are not aware of other teaching manuals for workshops on intersecting forms of oppression that center issues and theorizing from Latin America. Furthermore, digitally publishing our manual on Manifold will allow it to be a living document with suggestions from facilitators and participants from across the region. We would additionally create a website to host our project and connect people who get involved with the Cuerpos, Identidades y Discriminación workshop. Although our manual and website are primarily aimed at social justice educators and workshop participants who want to become social justice educators, we foresee that it will be of interest to those teaching K-12 and college, as well as to the general public.
